Paneled Sunsuit – Jumpsuit Version

The expression on this girl’s face tells it all folks… She’s stocked about this jumpsuit! Which I couldn’t be happier about! I’ve been meaning to stock her up on some easy one piece outfits (other then dresses) for the summer.. and a pattern tester call from Ajaire of Call Ajaire for her first pattern (releasing soon) was just the thing I needed! I’ve been eyeing jumpsuits/sunsuits/one pieces for a while but just couldn’t pull the plug and actually purchase one. There were things I liked, things I didn’t like, etc. Gah, I can be indecisive at times!

So for this version (my first tester version) I sewed up a jumpsuit length. I again went through my stash to see what I had that I could use. And found this light chambray that I got from my grand-maman’s stash over the Christmas holidays, which I paired with a vintage inspired floral I already had on hand. I used that for the pipping detail on the bodice and pockets. I wanted this version to have a vintage feel to it, which I think I succeeded.

I’m going to be honest here, at first I didn’t totally love my fabric pairing. But after I sewed it up, slept on it and showed A the next day (and her reaction) I was definitely digging it more! I’m definitely thinking about making a version with some darker chambray.. Or maybe a chambray for shorts and a different fabric all together for the bodice (to make it look like a two piece?!?)

Because we all know that A is super tall…. I sewed up a size 5 with an 8 length. You’ll see in one of the shots that it seems tight around the bum area, that’s just because she’s got her hands in her pockets and is pulling the pants forward! Also don’t forget, this is the first test version! So there have already been some adjustments made to the pattern.

The pattern also has an elastic cuff at the bottom of the pants… Because my photo spot is so awesome I had decided to crop it out! Unless you guys want me to share the mess that is the toy box and electrical outlet in this spot of the house 😉

And just because I have to share this with you guys, because it made my heart melt! I didn’t prewash my chambray (I should have, I know… but just wanted to cut into it), so the stuff still smells like my grand-maman’s house! Which A absolutely noticed when she put it on to try and is pretty much against me washing it! Unfortunately, it’ll be going in the wash soon (hello, I can only let her wear the thing so many times without washing it!) but maybe I won’t prewash the rest of that chambray 😉

What kind of sewing plans do you have coming up for the summer? Shorts are still on my list, but shorts on the line is coming up soon so perfect excuse right?!?

Looks so good in chambray. I'm really into jumpsuits at the moment (on kids). No need to find matching tops 😉

Really nice! It definitely has an 80's vibe for me in the pale denim. Is that vintage already? Aaaargh, so old! 🙂
I have the same problem with my photo spot for me, but thankfully the kids are still short enough that a portrait image can include all of them without the hallway or laundry getting in shot!
I'm guessing grandma smell is nice as well as nostalgic 🙂 We should all hope to leave behind good smell memories!

Thank you 🙂 Yes… It is almost 80s isn't it (I had thought more 70s but the light denim was around those two eras right?!)

The kids need to stand on the toy box so you don't see the electrical outlet… plus you know, the wall ends two feet on one side and two feet on the other there's the tv unit! lol.

And I've never thought about the smell I leave…. hopefully it's good!! hahahaha Although I didn't realize it smelled like anything different until a few weeks after I got it home from my grand-maman's! Oh… to go back now 😉 A trip is going to need to be planned lol
